5/23/2022 - The Laura Coates ShowDr. Soumi Eachempati speaks about Monkeypox
00:00 / 09:20

Previous topics:

  • COVID booster shot cut risks of hospitalization by half.

  • A significant increase in the number of people who are infected with COVID, RSV, and the flu.

  • New variants are more contagious and cause more severe symptoms than the original strains and these upticks are only going to get worse as winter approaches.

  • People should get vaccinated as soon as possible and take precautions such as washing their hands and wearing masks.

  • As more and more people return to work, testing is becoming increasingly important - and while there are many different types of COVID tests available, not all of them are created equal.

  • The CDC stated that they would be scaling back on their surveillance testing of asymptomatic individuals. This change in policy has led to some confusion and concern. After all, if the CDC is no longer testing people who don't have symptoms, how will they know if there's an outbreak?

  • The mRNA vaccine is a new technology that is being used to develop vaccines for a variety of diseases. The principle behind this approach is to introduce a piece of genetic material (mRNA) into the body that encodes for a protein that is found on the surface of the disease-causing organism.

  • On September 12, a nine-year-old girl in Houston, Texas was diagnosed with monkeypox, becoming the first person in the United States to contract the virus since 2003. The child had recently traveled to Nigeria, where an outbreak of the disease has been reported. It is unclear how the child became infected, as she did not have direct contact with any animals.

  • If you haven't had COVID yet, you really should be getting your updated Bivalent booster, which has been shown to decrease hospitalizations.

  • In recent years, the distribution of vaccines has become an increasingly important topic. With the advent of new and more deadly diseases, the need for vaccines has never been greater. However, funding for the distribution of vaccines is down this fall, making it difficult for many people to get the vaccinations they need.

  • One reason for this decrease in funding is the current economic climate. With many people out of work and struggling to make ends meet, there is less money available for government programs like vaccine distribution. Another reason for the decline in funding is the recent political turmoil in Washington. With Congress gridlocked on so many issues, it has been difficult to pass any legislation that would provide additional funding for vaccine distribution. As a result, many people are at risk of contracting disease this fall. Another reason for the decline in funding is the recent political turmoil in Washington. With Congress gridlocked on so many issues, it has been difficult to pass any legislation that would provide additional funding for vaccine distribution. As a result, many people are at risk of contracting disease this fall. The best way to protect yourself and your family from disease is to get vaccinated.

  • The news seems to be full of stories about the latest COVID-19 treatments, but what about a preventative? Enter Paxlovid, a new drug that is being hailed as a potential game-changer in the fight against COVID-19. Paxlovid is a prophylactic, meaning it is taken before exposure to the virus in order to prevent infection. This is in contrast to therapies, which are taken after exposure or after symptoms have begun.
