Updated: Sep 14, 2021

Dr. Soumi Eachempati, CEO and Co-Founder of CLEARED4 and former Director of Surgical ICU & Trauma at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Center gave a much anticipated and requested discussion about Vaccines, Delta Variants and COVID-19. Dr Soumi took questions from the live audience and explored issues such as why vaccines differ, should you mix and match vaccines, what is Lambda variant and why the CDC recommends 8 months for booster shots.

Dr. Soumi Eachempati is a frequently featured medical expert in the media who provides informed perspectives on COVID-19 and the latest health and safety issues facing us today.

Summary

The summer of 2021 has brought new peaks of cases and hospitalizations to many parts of the United States. These events have dashed hope that vaccinations in the first half of 2021 would render the pandemic powerless and allow it to be relegated to areas where vaccinations were less prevalent. A combination of factors such as waning immunity from vaccines, the Delta strain of the coronavirus, and decreased precautions from pandemic fatigue instead created a situation where many locales had challenges in managing their Covid-19 numbers.

In the following webinar, I discussed some of the factors associated with these events and the reasons behind the need for “booster” shots for those already fully vaccinated. I discussed the reasons why the vaccines differ and how we should consider their value even if they are not approved everywhere. I also reflected on which individuals were being infected currently and why children are very important to stopping the pandemic.
